The mood at McCloud Guest House is one of casual elegance. Built in 1907, the building originally served as the private residence of Mr. J.H. Queal, who was the president and owner of the McCloud River Lumber Company. in 1921 it became know as the "Guest House" when the company staffed the home with a cook and housekeeper to accompadte traveling dignitaries and lumber executives. Notable celebrities who have slumbered at The Guest House include President Herbert Hoover, actress Jean Harlow, Califonia Governor James Rolph, baseball player Ty Cobb, and various members of the Hearst family.
Today, The Guest House is operated seasonally as a 7 bedroom historic inn plus a 2 bedroom, 2 bath caretakers cottage. Each room has a private bath and has been lovingly updated with its own characteristic charm and decorated with period antiques. The shared common area includes a cozy library and game room with an antique billards table from the Hearst collection plus a TV room, and free Wi-fi.
